Meet our Educators

Christina South, Educational Therapist

As a part-time classroom teacher, I love helping students develop thinking skills that will bring success in all areas of life. But I also see students who struggle to find that success. My desire to reach and teach those struggling students has led me to NILD therapy which helps students overcome cognitive processing difficulties.

I taught for eight years in Christian schools. Then I became a homeschooling parent of six, including four adopted from foster care. I am still teaching the last two at home. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Secondary Education from Southern Oregon State College. I have completed NILD training levels I, II, and II along with Rx Reading, Rx Writing, and Rx Math.

I also teach math classes at Hill Creek, a Christian Homeschool Program. I especially enjoy having NILD students in my classes. One of my passions is to help struggling students be included and find success in the classroom. I can also answer questions and give assistance to other Hill Creek teachers concerning NILD students.

I pray that you will find encouragement and help as a parent of a struggling student. Feel free to send me an email with any questions you have.

Patty Huey, Educational Therapist, retired

Working with all students gives me great joy, but I hold those with “invisible struggles” most dear to my heart. I’m sure this is because my own son, Justin, struggled academically, and I often experienced his frustration and my own feelings of inadequacy.

For years into my teaching career, I felt disheartened because I could not fully meet the needs of struggling students. Now, I feel delighted when a student in educational therapy transforms into an academically competent student with an inner resolve to persevere, whether that’s in home studies, or in the challenging Hill Creek classes.

We all know that almost anyone would rescue a child in obvious danger, but few might realize that children with invisible issues are in danger, too, of emotional, social, academic, and vocational struggles. I am most dedicated to this type of student. My work with struggling students is a ministry. While this ministry is challenging at times, it is also extremely rewarding, because the mediated learning experience through NILD educational therapy works. I am so grateful to have discovered this excellent program.

God bless your endeavors in finding help for your child.
