I have 2 kids with a form of dyslexia. I was banging my head against the wall wandering why my children could do certain things but not others. It was a helpless feeling. I knew my children were smart so when the school district wanted to give them ways to work around their deficit I was disappointed, and I felt like they were giving them a crutch. I finally found NILD. It was just the thing we were looking for. Both Hill Creek educational therapists have been a blessing in our lives. They push the kids and really truly care about them. They saw in them what no one else saw, two bright children who just needed cognitive support.

NILD has been an enormous blessing in our life. At the age of 10, my daughter, who is normally very bright, was still struggling with even small amounts of writing and with spelling basic words, as well as some other issues. She also could not remember the cursive form of letters, despite us practicing regularly for 2 years prior to starting NILD. My first indication that NILD was a great choice came about two months into the program when my daughter very excitedly announced that she had spelled a word correctly, without looking or asking. This was HUGE in our house as that had never happened before. This continued to happen more and more. Then one day she was writing for fun- again this was huge and very good. By the end of the first year, she was writing everything in cursive and ENJOYED it. She preferred to write in cursive most of the time and still does. Even when she does not have to write cursive, she chooses to.

Before NILD, she could not finish answering a workbook page of questions at the end of a history or science day. Now she does it easily, in cursive, and mostly spelled correctly. The improvement we have seen after the first year of NILD has simply blown us away. We are abundantly thankful that have found this program and are able to go through it.

Our fifth-grader struggled with writing. It was as if there was a no link between his brain and his hand. The frustration led to many afternoons of tears for all of us. We were recommended to try NILD. We didn’t want to add to our already busy schedule yet we realized that we had a very intelligent boy who was falling behind due to his inability to put pen to paper. Our goal was to try the techniques for one year and see how it went.

We never looked back. NILD helped our son bridge the gap between verbalizing a sentence to being able to write it down. His growth in this area didn’t happen over-night but did happen in leaps over time. Even after he finished the program we still have seen him take huge surges of sudden connection both with writing and typing.

One of the key pieces of NILD was the knowledge for our son to understand how his brain functions. The boost in confidence was huge just knowing that he could achieve anything, all he needed was to tie some “wires” together in his brain. This was possibly one of the most eye opening pieces of NILD. We were able to work together on a different level due to the awareness of knowing how he stores information and how to get at it.

In addition, the daily struggle was over from the beginning. We were able to put our full confidence in his teacher. In this way, she could lead and we could peacefully follow knowing she would choose all the right challenges and areas of work that he needed. We could do the tasks she asked and know we were moving forward every day. It was no longer our responsibility to put together his homework. We did the home work she assigned and that gave us great peace.

Our NILD educational therapist has been God’s gift to our precious son. The techniques and the uplifting confidence that she gave him will be with him forever.
